About This Expedition
The Kedarkantha expedition is widely celebrated as India’s premier winter trek, offering a rare combination of accessibility and dramatic alpine grandeur. Starting from the vibrant, remote village of Sankri, the trail quickly immerses you in a winter wonderland. You navigate through dense, snow-dusted oak and pine forests, eventually camping beside the frozen, mirror-like surface of Juda Ka Talab. As you ascend past the treeline to the high-altitude base camp, the landscape strips away entirely, leaving you exposed to the raw, biting elements and incredibly clear, star-filled night skies.

Dehradun to Sankri Basecamp
Assemble at the Dehradun railway station early in the morning to meet your group. Board your comfortable mountain vehicle to begin a highly scenic 220-kilometer drive along rushing rivers. The winding road climbs steadily through beautiful terraced valleys and deep pine forests. You will reach the charming border village of Sankri by the late afternoon. Check into your cozy guesthouse and attend an important evening briefing session with your Olixora trek leader. Finally, enjoy a warm dinner before resting for the mountain climb ahead.
Sankri to Juda Ka Talab
Savor a hearty breakfast before entering the dense pine forest trail to launch your trek. The path ascends gradually through a natural corridor of towering trees and small mountain streams. Consequently, you stay well-shaded while adjusting comfortably to the weight of your pack. We will reach the legendary campsite of Juda Ka Talab right around midday. Settle into your premium tents pitched near the edge of the iconic, completely frozen high-altitude lake. Spend the evening exploring the quiet woods before sleeping under a clear, starry sky.
Juda Ka Talab to Kedarkantha Basecamp
Step out of your tents into the crisp morning air and enjoy hot tea. Start a short but steadily steep ascent that exits the main tree line quickly. The trail opens up dramatically into vast snow meadows offering wide panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. You will reach the Kedarkantha Base Camp by early afternoon. The temperature drops rapidly in this open clearing; therefore, pull out your heavy insulated layers immediately. Your team serves early dinner because you must wake up before dawn for the summit push.
Summit Day
We wake up at midnight to begin the ultimate summit climb under the dark, starlit sky. Strap on your microspikes to navigate the steep, icy mountain slopes safely. Enjoy the magnificent 360-degree views of Swargarohini, Black Peak, and the Bandarpoonch ranges. Afterward, complete a thrilling descent back down past the base camp to your familiar site at Juda Ka Talab. Celebrate your massive achievement over warm evening snacks and hot dinner.
